Child & Youth Program Food Service Worker
Location: Child Development Center

Summary of Duties: Performs variety of food preparation and food service tasks for Child Development Center, NS Everett. Assists in food preparation with tasks such as peeling potatoes; cutting, sorting and washing vegetables and fruits; assembling sandwiches; and measuring and weighing ingredients. Stocks food service carts with utensils, plates, beverages. Package and wrap items for serving to children. Transports food from kitchen area to classrooms or activity areas. Undertake kitchen maintenance such as pre-rinsing and washing of pots, dishes, glasses and silverware and cleaning of service carts. Performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout food service areas such as cleaning ceilings, cleaning exhaust hoods, cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment, washing floors and walls, cleaning refrigerators and freezers, and sanitizing garbage room. Practice proper food storage such as labeling and dating food items in refrigerator and freezers and stores leftovers in accordance with sanitation and health standards. Responsible for complying with security, fire and sanitation rules, policies and regulations. Ensures compliance with US Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and all pertaining policies and regulations. Completes all Department of the Navy training requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and High School graduate or equivalent. Ability to speak, read and understand written instructions such as duty schedules, standard operating procedures, recipe and work instructions. Food Service Workers assigned to Child & Youth programs must have ability to assist a cook preparing complete meals and snacks and work independently when required. Directly involved in the preparation and cooking of food including cooking from established recipes, weighing and proportioning ingredients, adjusting recipes to accommodate number of people to be served and preparing special dietary plates in compliance with USDA and Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) standards. Requires broad knowledge of food service operations required of large kitchen including, food handling procedures for special and complex food, preparing and cooking food, inventory, food storage, equipment maintenance, sanitation and safety. Ability to satisfactorily complete all background checks IAW PL 101-647to include National Agency check with Written Inquiries (NACI).
Conditions of Employment: Work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortable high temperatures and humidity. Food service workers are exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.
