Brief Description of Duties: This position is responsible for the management, supervision, design, administration, operation and technical direction of a comprehensive fitness program and its fitness spaces. Develops, implements, evaluates and continually modifies all components of a comprehensive fitness and health promotion program. Program includes fitness facility, group exercise classes, personal training, fitness and health promotion workshops, fitness, health and lifestyle assessments, command fitness conditioning and support, large-scale events etc. Sets standards, provide vision and serves as a model for fitness programs Navywide. Creates ongoing alliance with allied health care providers, related civilian section medical and fitness organizations. Assists CNIC, MWR Fitness Division and CNIC Health and Physical Readiness staff with input for development and modification of Navy command physical conditioning and MWR fitness polices. Provides input for construction, renovation and operations of fitness facilities. Develops and monitors the execution of the annual NAF operating budget. Establishes and maintains accurate property control systems in accordance with higher directives (e.g. DRMO and receiving of all athletic property). Attend meetings with command, athletic and recreation representatives, contributing suggestions for determining fitness and sports interests. Establishes procedures, guidelines and operating instructions for all fitness programs. Supervises up to 10 Fitness Trainers/Recreation Specialists and Recreation Assistants. May act as the Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Director in his/absence.

Qualification Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in accredited college/university in Exercise Physiology, Physical Education or Fitness or Nutrition Sciences is desirable or three (3) year experience in a large fitness facility, coursework or experiences should include advances exercise physiology, exercise prescription for healthy population and for individuals with physical problems/health conditions. Possesses a current fitness certification from an accredited certifying health and fitness organization. Be able to obtain a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) and first aid certifications or be able to obtain within 60 days of being appointed to the position. Three (3) year experience designing and implementing fitness and health promotion programs and operating multi-site facilities and program/staff. Certified as a Navy Exercise Leader. Minimum of two (2) year experience conducting graded exercise test on a stationary bike/treadmill, performing body composition, lung function, blood cholesterol and strength assessments. Ability to develop and customize presentations and address groups. Possess high degree of skill developing written materials and policies. Experience coordinating the planning and execution of large scale, complex activities and events on and off the installations.

Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of National Agency (NACI) background check required. Work involves frequent walking, standing and occasional lifting of objects that exceed 50 pounds in weight. Occasional travel to other facilities/installations required. Incumbent’s schedule is typical Monday thru Friday, will include some evenings and weekends for special events/programs. In addition to condition,
