Brief Description of Duties: This position serves as the Site Manager for Aquatics located at Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Branch of Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) MWR Program at Naval Station Everett. The Aquatics Manager promotes and coordinates a well-rounded comprehensive aquatics program for approximately 10,000 eligible military, family members, retired military and authorized civilians. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Sports, Fitness andAquatics Manager at NS Everett. The incumbent is responsible for managing and supervising all civilian and military personnel assigned to the Aquatics Section. Develops performance standards, performance appraisals, schedule staff, implements open communication, morale enhancement, leadership development and Star Customer Service with the section. Administers written and practical safety tests to ensure the qualifications of lifeguards and instructors assigned to the swimming pool. Manages the program on administrative matters to include letters of operation, standard operating procedures, special reports, management narratives, after action reports etc. Assists in preparation and execution of budget.Ensures excellence in customer service, satisfying participant interests and needs such as swimming lessons, swim meets, water safety classes, special events, swim clinics, water exercise classes, military readiness training, swim and diving teams. Responsible for ensuring coordination of all maintenance work required for year round facility upkeep, water chemical testing, pool vacuums, filtration, facilities equipment inspection. Ensures that fire, safety, security and sanitation inspections are conducted and routine facility maintenance is performed. Establishesand maintains positive working relationship with other military installations and community organizations, such as American Red Cross, to promote and exchange ideas, programs and customer service.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school with field of study of recreation, aquatics OR five (5) years of related recreation experience to include three (3) years of aquatics experience AND 1 year of supervisory experience
- Knowledge of goals, principles, techniques and methods ofprocedure used in organizing aquatic activities.
- Should have satisfactorily completed swimming pool operator’s clinic. Must possess current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification, Lifeguard, First Aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)certification. Some training as Aquatic Facilitator Operator (AFO) and Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) certified Water Aerobics Instructor.If not currently holding these certificates, will obtain them within six months of employment.
- Knowledge of financial management and experience in budget process and skills to manage and execute expenditures within budget.
- Knowledge and experience in personnel management and administration to include position management, recruitment and selection, employee training, performance appraisal process, leadership development, EEO and Affirmative Action and employee labor relations.
- Extensive oral and written communication skills.
Conditions of Employment: The work requires some physical exertion in handling tools, materials, and equipment in organizing, preparing physical environment for the aquatic facilities and facility routine maintenance. Must be able to lift50 lbs which includes chemicals, or aquatic equipment.
